Caer Dynnaf Hillfort was built near Llanblethian, and was subsequently used throughout the Roman occupation.

Centuries
The Romans constructed what is believed to be holiday accommodation, or a section of a chain of defences, at Cold Knap in Barry.

Saint Illtud founded a church and religious school at Llantwit Major. His pupils included Saints David, Patrick and Gildas.

Dinas Powys hillfort was reused and became a key European trading centre.
c800
The Vikings used Flat Holm island as a mooring point.
9th-10th Centuries
Llantwit Major's early Christian memorial stones were erected.
Late 11th Century
Iestyn ap Gwrgan, the last native ruler of Morgannwg, reinforces Dinas Powys Castle against the Norman invaders.

Reginald de Sully constructed Sully Castle.
12th Century
Dunraven and Penllyn castles were built.

St. Quentins Castle at Llanblethian was constructed.

Ogmore Castle was founded. 1141 Ewenny Priory, a Benedictine institution, was founded by Maurice de Londres.

Penmark and St Donats Castles were built.

Tal-y-Fan Castle was built; Cowbridge was established by Richard de Clare.

The Methodist John Wesley preached at St. Illtud's church.

Tidal harbour on the River Ely opened at Penarth.

Penarth dock opened.

Two docks were built between Barry Island and the mainland to serve the growing coal trade.

Atlantic College was founded at St. Donats castle.
